Lupe Fiasco To Grace The Cover Of XXL Magazine

18 Apr

Lupe on the cover of XXL

I come baring good news, especially if you’re a Lupe Fiasco fan.

Chicago Native Lupe Fiasco has quietly moved more than 200,00 copies of his third studio album“LASERS” in his first week, as well as watched his first single “The Show Goes On” produced by Kane Beatz rise up and go Platinum! Something Lupe has somehow only done twice in his career, his only previous platinum record was “Superstar” from his second album.

Lupe also will be gracing the cover of XXL Magazine for the very first time and it’s only right with the numbers and obstacles Lupe has overcome in the past few years. (Damn Atlantic Records)

Lu admitted that he made a more poppy sounding album than he would have liked with Lasersand isn’t proud of the artistic compromises he had to make. While he might not feel comfortable making pop music, Lupe is confident with his skills on the mic; even going as far as calling himself one of the best lyrical MCs in the game at the moment. “I can actually make the argument, seriously, that, Yo, I’m better than all y’all,” he boasted. “You have people who can say that. Jay-Z can say that. Eminem can say that. Canibus can say that—if we are going line for line. If you want to relate me to the newer cats, let’s go. Let’s go line for line and bar for bar. If it’s all about spitting and metaphors and MCing and lyrics and entendres, I will eat 99 percent of you dudes up.”

Easy with the confidence though Lu, we know you’re dope, you know you’re dope but when you say it hmmm….

So I would like to take this time to congratulate Lupe, he should know that his devoted fan base will forever have his back.

And also good one to all the Lasers out there for not giving up on him!

Lupe Fiasco to knock Adele off the #1 spot?

11 Mar

LASERS out in stores NOW

On a brighter note Hits Daily Double comes baring good news.

LUPE’s on the way to knock off UK singer Adele from her top spot  with a projected 220-240k in sales and claiming a number one album this week. The Lasers release will mark the best selling first week of his career, and the second biggest sales for one week this year. With so much turmoil surrounding Lu and the label, we weren’t even expecting this to go down. I guess what they say is true, controversy sells.

Lupe Fiasco: Hostage of my Record Label

LASERS is in stores NOW

I would love to boycott Altantic Records right now… but I can’t. (Paolo Nutini, Tracy Chapman and Pendulum are still on it :'[ )

First of all how dare they tell Lupe Fiasco to dumb it down. In an in-depth interview with the Chicago Sun Times Lupe talked about all that went down behind the scenes of making the Lasers album, Atlantic freezing his budget, depressions, being a hostage and more. Here’s an excerpt:

“I was specifically told” — Fiasco chuckled — “‘Don’t rap too deep on this record.'” He laughed some more. “That was a specific order from the top. ‘You’re rapping too fast or too slow, or it’s too complex.’ …

There are consequences and combat that comes from that process and the eventual compromise. With me, though, I’m not writing about someone else. I’m writing about me. This is my life. It’s very personal for me. So for somebody to kind of put their fingers in that and play with that, it becomes more damaging.”

“I am a hostage,” Fiasco said. “I gave them what they wanted. If I didn’t, at the end of the day the album wasn’t coming out.”

Earlier in the month Lupe revealed that he still isn’t on good terms with his label, Atlantic Records. I’m not surprised.

This isn’t the first time, or the last, that Lupe has talked about the struggles he’s faced trying make his 3rd album. In another interview with complex.com he spoke out about his feelings towards the Lasers album. The words ‘I hate it’ were uttered… Just the thought of that alone kills me. The full story’s still up. So take a look!
